Tèxtils.CAT strengthens its European network to foster circularity of the textile industry through Skills4Circularity

27/11/2025

Tèxtils.CAT has participated in the kick-off meeting of the Skills4Circularity project, a strategic 4-year Erasmus+ alliance dedicated to modernizing the workforce across the European textile sector.

The textile sector across Europe is currently facing a critical turning point. While the sector is under increasing pressure to meet ambitious EU Green Deal targets and transition from a linear “take-make-waste” model to a circular economy, it faces a significant barrier: a widening skills gap. Across the continent, manufacturers are struggling to find professionals equipped with the necessary expertise in eco-design, advanced recycling technologies, and digital product traceability. Without a workforce capable of implementing these complex changes, the European textile sector risks losing its global competitive edge.

Skills4Circularity has been launched as the solution to this pan-European challenge. The project unites a powerful consortium of 21 partners from 11 countries, led by Tèxtils.CAT member Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC). It pools the expertise of leading technical universities, vocational training centers, industry clusters and other interested parties. Together, this alliance is developing a new educational standard focused entirely on operationalizing circularity.

The project will generate high-level training resources that cover the entire lifecycle of sustainable production: from the chemistry of bio-based materials to the logistics of textile waste management and the implementation of digital passports for transparency.

For Catalonia, Tèxtils.CAT’s participation in this project represents a vital link between this high-level European knowledge and local industrial reality. The primary role of the cluster is to ensure that the innovations, curricula, and training methodologies developed at a European level are effectively transferred to the Catalan ecosystem. Tèxtils.CAT will act as the conduit, bringing these world-class resources directly to the factory floors of Terrassa and the wider region.

This knowledge transfer will have a direct and positive impact on the competitiveness of Catalan companies. By participating in Skills4Circularity, local SMEs will gain access to specialized masterclasses, training modules and other resources designed to upskill their current teams in the specific technical areas required by new regulations. Furthermore, the project addresses the region’s demographic challenge (an aging workforce) by modernizing vocational training to attract young talent into the sector. Ultimately, this initiative ensures that the Catalan textile industry does not just survive the green transition but is empowered with the human capital necessary to lead it.

Moreover, for Tèxtils.CAT, leading the communication of this project is a direct execution of the organization’s 5-pillar strategic roadmap. Skills4Circularity activates every single gear of the cluster’s strategy: it nurtures Talent through advanced training, accelerates the Digital and Circular transition of member companies, and creates strong European Connections. Furthermore, by uniting 21 partners to co-create solutions, this initiative stands as a prime example of collaborative innovation, ensuring that the Catalan ecosystem remains dynamic interconnected and up to date.
