New projects to promote circular economy in the advanced textile materials sector in Catalonia

22/01/2024

The green transition of the advanced textile materials sector is one of the strategic priorities of AEI Tèxtils, and one way to promote it is by supporting its members in their initiatives related to circular economy.

In the last years, the cluster has been participating and leading projects to promote sustainability in various areas, such as promoting the substitution of hazardous chemicals, encouraging the use of more sustainable packaging, supporting the education of students and workers in the sector on issues related to sustainability, etc.

11 cluster members have been awarded with co-funding from the Waste Agency of Catalonia to initiate a project within the call Foment de l’Economia Circular 2022E. Cima, S.A.U., Finish S.A., Finsa – Job Group, Francisco Pagès Valentí, S.A., Glasscom, S.L., Marina Race, S.L., Rutex, S.L.U., Technitiger, S.L., Texfire Tèxtils Tècnics, S.L., Triturats La Canya, S.A. and Velutex Flock, S.A.

AEI Tèxtils will also carry out a project within the framework of this call, under the title TEX-r-HUB – HUB OF RECYCLING TECHNICAL TEXTILES IN CATALONIA. This project aims to develop a sectorial study to promote circular economy in the sector of advanced textile materials in Catalonia, connecting the companies in the ecosystem to facilitate the circularity of the sector.

The main actions to be carried out are the creation of a database of companies and agents of the sector involved in the value chain of advanced textile materials’ recycling, identifying the technical recycling capabilities, and the existing challenges for its scaling up and growth opportunities. The cluster will invite the main actors to a series of co-creation sessions to identify future challenges and lines of action for scaling up the network to a recycling hub for advanced textile materials.

Once again, the cluster is positioned as a catalyst to promote initiatives that foster the sustainability in the sector and demonstrates its potential to contribute to circularity and the fight against climate change.
