Intersectoral Synergies for the Circular Economy: A study with the MAV, Tèxtils.CAT, Waste and Packaging Clusters

Program: Circular Economy Promotion Projects, from the Catalan Waste Agency

Tèxtils.CAT participation: collaborators, together with the Advanced Materials Cluster (MAV) and the Packaging Cluster. Led by the Waste Cluster of Catalonia (CREC).

Start date: May 2025

End date: April 2026

Objectives:

The SINTEC project addresses the growing problem of technical textile waste, characterised by its recycling difficulty due to the multiple materials involved, the potential use of toxic substances, and its low reuse rate—resulting in most of it ending up in landfills or incinerators.

The main goal of the project is to study the circularity of waste generated by the technical textile industry, particularly those with high polymeric content, to enable their reuse in new materials for the packaging sector.

This objective will be achieved through intersectoral collaboration among the four participating Catalan clusters to maximise resource efficiency and generate unprecedented industrial symbiosis models.
